Tourism
West Lake
West Lake, located in Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, is one of the major scenic freshwater lakes in the country. It is renowned worldwide for its beautiful lake and mountain scenery, long history and culture, and rich cultural relics. The formation of West Lake went through a long process from a shallow bay to a lagoon. It was called Wulin Water in the Han Dynasty, Qiantang Lake in the Tang Dynasty, and presented a prosperous scene in the Southern Song Dynasty. It underwent several renovations during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today, West Lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides and the city on the other. It is about 3.2 kilometers long from north to south and 2.8 kilometers wide from east to west, with a lake shore of about 15 kilometers and a lake area of 6.39 square kilometers. The beauty of West Lake is also fully reflected in its ecology, forming a unique water circulation system.

Leifeng Pagoda
Leifeng Pagoda, originally named the Empress Dowager's Pagoda, also known as the West Gate Brick Pagoda, and commonly called the "Yellow Empress Pagoda", is located at No. 15, Nanshan Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on the Xixiao Mountain on the south bank of the West Lake Scenic Area. Leifeng Pagoda is one of the "Ten Scenic Spots of West Lake" and also one of the nine famous pagodas in China. It was first built in the second year of the Taiping Xingguo period of the Northern Song Dynasty (977 AD) by King Qian Chu of Wuyue (929-988). There are two theories about its construction: one is that it was built to house the Buddha's relic of the spiral hair; the other is that it was built to pray for national peace and prosperity and to celebrate the birth of a son to the favored Empress Dowager Huang. Leifeng Pagoda has been repeatedly renovated throughout history. The existing structure is designed based on the original Leifeng Pagoda and was rebuilt in 2002. The reconstruction of Leifeng Pagoda has become an important landmark of the cultural and humanistic landscape of the Southern Song Dynasty in Hangzhou, and is a successful example of the protection and display of historical sites and scenic spots.
